First, A quick Insight Into the Alcoholic Mind.
“They (The Alcoholic/Addict) are restless, irritable and discontented, unless they can again experience the sense of ease and comfort which comes at once by taking a few drinks—drinks which they see others taking with impunity.” This powerful passage from the Big Book Of Alcoholics Anonymous, found in The Doctors Opinion, pg. XXVII sheds some much needed light into the experience of the practicing Alcoholic/Addict attempting to find sobriety. Additionally, we can go so far as to say that if the Alcoholic does not experience some sense of ease and comfort in his newfound sobriety that there will come a time when he will again pick up the drink or drug. Simply put, sobriety must be ENJOYABLE and in our San Diego Sober Living home we take every opportunity to have our residents experience joy in sobriety.
Recently, the residents of our San Diego Sober Living home had an amazing opportunity to enjoy a long weekend in the mountains at Dogwood Campground at Lake Arrowhead. This trip was planned for about two months so each of our sober housemates had plenty of time to make requests to take off work as we cannot stress enough the importance that all of our residents take part in each of our sober house activities. We attend 12 step meetings together daily, participate in weekly accountability meetings together and we integrate into our community through activities and outreach…always together.
Throughout this weekend we had an incredible opportunity to get to know two of our newest sober living residents, Chris and Jason. We are blessed to now share our space with you guys! Both of these young men recently completed primary treatment at local treatment centers and have come to us with a renewed energy for recovery and are an excellent addition to our seaside sober living home in San Diego.
Some of the activities that our sober living residents we able to participate in this weekend included: Journey Tribute Band @ Lake Arrowhead, Fishing @ Lake Gregory, Hiking, Fire Building, Eating S’mores and all around pigging out! Each of our sober living residents is provided with a 24 HR fitness gym membership so they shouldn’t have any problem burning off the extra calories back at the sober house.
All sober living homes in San Diego aren’t created equally. We truly care about these men and we’ve devoted our lives to making a difference in theirs. We invite you to Shoreline Sober Living to experience a community of men in recovery and enjoying every minute of it.
