San Diego Sober Living

Living Sober in San Diego is certainly a blessing.  With nearly year round sunshine we have access to virtually any activity one of our sober living home residents can think of to do.  Recently a couple of our sober house members have picked up playing golf and a couple of our staff happen to be avid golfers as well.  We decided to make the trek to inland San Diego a few miles where we could play one of the local courses. When we arrived at Carlton Oaks golf course, we were immediately surprised by what terrible shape the course was in!  We decided that we had driven about 20 minutes from our sober living house and that we weren’t willing to be deterred from having fun!  We head out onto the course.  Somewhere around the 17th hole one of our sober residents said, “It’s weird, that I haven’t had a desire to drink at all while we were out here today.”  As many of you may already know, often times, drinking and golfing can go hand in hand.  Although this particular resident may have thought this odd, we have seen many of our San Diego sober living residents have similar experiences.

The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, states “There is a solution. Almost none of us liked the self-searching, the leveling of our pride, the confession of shortcomings, which the process requires for its successful consummation. But we saw that it really worked in others, and we had come to believe in the hopelessness and futility of life as we had been living it.

We don’t feel that this is an easy process for any one of our sober living residents to complete, but we have consistently seen miraculous change in those that were willing and honest enough to try.  We have watched many of our residents, friends and family have the necessary experiences that will allow them to walk through any facet of life without experiencing the obsession to drink or drug while doing so.  Whether that be life’s challenges or playing golf with your buddies from your sober living home. At Shoreline Sober Living San Diego we provide our San Diego sober living residents the direction and support they need from a community of men in recovery together.
