Welcome back to the Shoreline Sober Living blog where we continue to provide you with updates on activities and events our recovery home residents at our Southern California sober living home particpate in. This week’s update is dedicated to one our most tenured sober living residents, Zach. He arrived at our sober house with 5 months clean and sober after recently leaving another San Diego Sober Living Home where the experience wasn’t meeting his sober living expectations. We interviewed Zach and learned that his strong self will had helped him to accomplish many difficult feats in life, but with regards to alcohol his will to resist drinking was uniquely weak compared to an average drinker. The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous describes this type of drinker in great detail and we could certainly relate to Zach’s story. With a unanimous decision we decided that Zach would be a great candidate to participate in our structured sober living program. 7 months have passed since that initial interview and Zack has positioned himself as a strong resident leader in our San Diego Sober Living home. Zach helped many members of the home to find balance by introducing and encouraging them to attend yoga classes, work out at 24 hr fitness with him and take walks to the beach for afternoon surf trips. Zach had a clear understanding of the opportunity these men have to utilize this period of their journey to truly rebuild the lives they have been missing, while living in a beautiful Southern California Sober Living Home. This weekend we had a celebration at our recovery home to recognize Zack’s 1 year of continuous sobriety. There was an excellent turnout by the Encinitas and Coastal San Diego recovery community and we thank all of the members of our “brother” and “sister” sober living homes and recovery houses that were able to attend this special occasion. Zach and the rest of our San Diego sober living housemates had the blessing of seeing our morning meditation space transform into a gathering of young men and women in recovery from this insidious disease. Events like these that are often hosted at Shoreline Sober Living San Diego offer unique opportunities for our sober home residents to experience socializing and integrating into the sober community in a space where they are most comfortable.
We want to give a special thanks to Zach for allowing us to celebrate and share his accomplishments with our community and give hope to those that may follow in his footsteps. Congratulations Zach!
