Shoreline Sober Living, San Diego, CA

The current coronavirus pandemic has caused restrictions to be put in place across the country with many businesses temporarily shutting their doors including retail outlets, restaurants and gyms. Whilst the pandemic continues, government officials have stated that daily exercise is essential for the physical and mental well-being of citizens. As only one in three adults in the USA consume the recommended amount of physical activity each week, we are here to show you some methods of how you can change that and start getting fitter whilst on lockdown today.

Benefits to Exercising During Lockdown

At Shoreline, we try to always adopt a ‘glass half full’ or optimistic point of view and therefore we thought we’d go over some of the benefits to exercising during lockdown life began in early March. Adopting a new workout regime can offer:

  • Boosting your immune system
  • Reduce the chance of getting the virus
  • Improve mental well-being
  • Improve physical well-being
  • Helps quit smoking
  • Helps regain control of your weight
  • Reduces the risk of heart disease
  • Sharpens your awareness and judgement
Even taking a simple 90 minute walk being surrounding by nature boosts your cognitive functioning whilst also decreasing anxiety levels.

Types of Exercises

If you’re looking for some inspiration on the different types of exercises that you can part-take in during the lockdown, we’ve compiled a list of some different activities that you can get involved in:

  • Walking
  • Running
  • Cycling
  • Online home workouts
  • Sit-ups
  • Push-ups

The lockdown has led to a surge in online PT trainers that can be found on various platforms including GymShark, Scott Laider and Rebecca Louise. These different types of platforms include all forms of fitness to suit you with yoga, Pilates, weight training, meal preps and much more. Other quirky online fitness blogs have also been released showing you how you can incorporate everyday household items into your workout routines.

Whilst staying active is fantastic for the body and mind, we also wanted to share some top tips to keep yourselves safe during these unprecedented times. Any equipment that you’ve ordered online, prior to being unwrapped and used, we strongly urge you to take extra precautions by wiping each item down individually. With the return of businesses and gyms lurking hopefully in the near future, we also recommend keeping some distance from gyms and other public communal areas for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to any restrictions being lifted.
